Cindy Strickland, FSA, FED

“For years, I painted with light in photography.

Now, I also paint with color.

Adding painting to my artistic expression has allowed me to explore color and texture in a way that compliments my photography.

Unlike in the past, I can now create true paintings in a modern medium which allows me to share the images more efficiently.

I love art, I love photography, and I am so happy to have found a way to combine them for myself and for my clients.”

Cindy Strickland, a fifth-generation Floridian, was raised in Sarasota, Florida.  Because her small college (Florida Southern College) did not offer a degree in photography, she decided that writing was a wonderful compliment to her images and graduated in 1987 with a bachelor of science degree in Journalism.

While continuing her photography on a personal level, Cindy entered the workforce as: Administrative Assistant at The Florida Conference of the United Methodist Church, Credit Manager at a department store, Caseworker for US Congressman Porter Goss, Senior Caseworker for US Congressman Dan Miller, and finally Customer Service and Printer at a local photo lab.  Although she had created the business in her head more than a decade before, A Moment Captured by Cindy Strickland was officially established in 1998.

In 1995, she and her husband, Tim (who was born and raised in Tallahassee), moved to Tallahassee to be close to Tim’s family, who all continue to live in the area. They have created a home north of Tallahassee on the property where they currently live with their children; Ben and Tyler. Their home rests on 10 acres of land that is the remaining land from the 500 acres once owned by the Strickland family generations before.  Within earshot of the air boats used on a section of Lake Iamonia, “Strickland Arm”, the cottage studio and family home are surrounded by acres of beautiful plantation land and preserve.  Family is extremely important to Tim and Cindy, and in 2009 they were delighted that Cindy’s parents chose to build a home on part of the property across the street from the family home and studio.

When at the studio, it is very likely that you will meet one or all of these members of the family: Tim (the Deputy and Investigator), Ben and Tyler (the very active kiddos teenagers that insist on growing up too fast), Frosty (the hostess cat), Belle (the very fluffy tom-boy cat), Chief (the “gold” cat full of personality), Buddy (Cindy’s helpful father, Harry) and Grandmommy (Cindy’s creative mother, Mary Catherine).
